Keymanagement

KeySetup
KeySetup is a procedure that maximizes the key security even if short passwords are chosen. The length of the password can exceed the chosen key length in the case of the applied KeySetup function. That means one can enter passwords which are as long as desired. Nevertheless it should be avoided, that the password length is chosen too shortly.
An attacker, which wants to break encrypted data must in this case first carry out an attack onto the KeySetup function. This is extremely difficult. In addition to the strong security of the implemented algorithms it is through the applied KeySetup function not feasible to launch an attack on the algorithm itself.
The quality of the entered password is analyzed and indicated optically by the progressbar "Keysecurity" in bit units. The progressbar "Key to Ciphersecurity" is if the KeySetup function is turned off equal to the bits for the Keysecurity, since the selected password will hand over directly to the Cipher algorithm.

Smartcards and Flash Memory Media
MCCrypt Pro MCSoft offers optionally the possibility to use Smartcards or flash storage mediums (USB Flash memory, Memory Drives,...) for a "password-free" encryption. Password free means that the customer does not have to be concerned with the selection of a password. This task is taken over by a MCSoft Keycard (the Smartcard) or a MCSoft Keyfile on the flash storage medium. A great number (thousands) of strong, unique keys are coded on the MCSoft Keycard and the MCSoft Keyfile. For the encryption these can be selected by the user or also by a random selection procedure. The decryption of the data works again either through the direct choice of the used key on the MCSoft Keycard/Keyfile, or through an automatic search of the suitable key.
Through the MCSoft Keycard/Keyfile system the user does not have the problem of how the receiver of a message will get the correct key for decrypting it. With a duplicate of the used MCSoft Keycard/Keyfile the receiver can decrypt the message again.
The MCSoft Keycard/Keyfile can be protected from unauthorized access. This is especially of interest when USB flash storages are used. In this way the user does not have to remember passwords any more. It is a very convenient and secure possibility to realize encryption.
